Hello there! Things have been rather quiet on this little space and I decided I’d pull out the camera again and try to share a bit from each month (and possibly more if time allows).  Things are so great here in Tennessee.  There are some fun things in the works this year, and we are excited to see what will come of them. It is always an adventure being a Swanson, and one I wouldn’t change for the world. And a bonus this month – we have had lots of sunshine for us happy Californians at heart, and also little bits of snow… which feeds my soul, oh so well.

Ezra has been making us weekly cakes, and they are not only delicious, but beautiful as well! He is quite a little baker/chef in the making. Maybe not so little anymore, our soon-to-be-teenager in what will seem like a few short months.  Last night he made us this Boston Cream Pie which he made from one of his favorite cookbooks Mad Hungry Cravingsand let me just say, this pie/cake will definitely be on repeat around here.

Last Saturday morning we woke up to a light dusting of snow, which is one of our very favorite things. Even though it does melt off in a few short hours, it still makes for a fun time for everyone while it lasts. And this week, the kids and Andy began tapping maple trees in the back to make our own maple syrup! It’s a fun project, and one they all look forward to checking each morning. We have collected a quart of sap in just a couple of days, which will not yield too much yet since it takes 40oz. of sap to yield a mere 1oz. of syrup!! There will be a good lesson to be learned in the art of syrup making and patience to boot!

This family of ours makes my heart soar and every day is a little slice of heaven being able to mother these kids. When Ottie tells me she loves me I respond by telling her how that makes my heart feel like it’s going to explode. So, now when she tells me she loves me she says, “mama yours heart is jumping up & down and wants to ‘splode!!” YES, YES IT DOES LITTLE ONE.
