over the summer andy ventured out with the middles for a camping trip, boys only. ever since then we’ve been organizing another trip, but this time, it would be the whole family, plus… the sisters. we have made some incredible friends here in nashville, and two of them happen to be sisters, best friends, roommates. over the months of living here and getting to know each other we have discovered an odd amount of similarities and therefore decided to spend copious amounts of time together. so, naturally, they came along. they are a perfect fit with our family and we all love them.
we drove a couple short hours southeast of nashville to a beautiful place called rock island. i have only experienced camping this beautiful when we were on our roadtrip around the northwest last fall. but this place, this was breathtaking.
an afternoon was spent at the river, as we trekked down the rocks to get to the water. axel drifted along with the current and giggled as he did. zoe and ezra jumped off the rocks along with andy doing his “nacho libre” swan dive. the kids all get a kick out of his goofiness. and i love watching him dive as he holds his hat with one hand and glasses with the other. it’s multitasking at it’s finest. zion, jo and steph went rock climbing to see more of the falls and watch from a higher distance. and ottilie got wet up to her tummy in the icy cold water.
and of course the evenings consisted of s’mores and laughter and reading and earlier than normal bedtimes for us adults, which i happened to like since i can’t seem to get myself to bed at a timely hour when we are at home. i love early mornings when dwelling amongst the trees, being welcomed with a crisp breeze and sparkles of sunlight streaming through all the branches. cocoa, and cookies, bike rides, and walks, reading, and whittling, and sitting and being… camping is such a perfect way to relax and unwind with those you love.
rock island, you were beautiful. we can’t wait to go back.Leave a Comment
